The Fredda Nottingham Memorial Scholarship was established by the Mu Iota Chapter after the death of Miss Fredda Nottingham. Miss Fredda, as she was affectionately called, was a dedicated educator who retired after 45 years in Dayton. She served as principal for 37 of those years. Miss Nottingham became a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in March of 1950. She was a charter member of Mu Iota. She served this organization faithfully until her death January 30, 1993.
After the successful passing of a bond issue to build a new high school campus, Mu Iota members approached the DISD school board with a request that the former Woodrow Wilson Junior High School building, which was to become a 5th grade campus, be renamed in honor of Miss Fredda for her longtime dedication to the education of students in the Dayton Independent School District. The building was renamed and dedicated in a lovely ceremony that was hosted by Mu Iota in the fall of 1999.
